This material features good cutting and polishing performance, and is produced through electric furnace smelting with electroslag remelting for purer steel and enhanced toughness.

Ideal applications include aluminum, zinc, and copper alloy extrusion dies, die casting molds, hot forging dies, and light steel components. SKD61 is also well-suited for manufacturing plungers, ejectors, and plastic molds. Nitriding treatment significantly improves surface hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, with particularly notable benefits for extrusion dies and enhanced demolding performance for die casting molds.
