Cold-rolled coils are manufactured from hot-rolled coils through rolling processes at room temperature below the recrystallization temperature. These products are available in both sheet and coil forms. Steel plates (also called box plates or flat plates) are delivered as sheets, while steel strips (also called coil plates) are delivered in rolls.
The cold rolling process occurs below the recrystallization temperature, typically using normal temperature rolling materials. In aluminum cold rolling, materials are categorized as plates (thickness ≥0.15mm) or foils (thickness <0.15mm). European and American manufacturers predominantly utilize 3-6 stand continuous rolling mills as cold rolling equipment.
Since no heating is involved during production, cold-rolled products avoid common hot-rolling defects such as pitting and scaling, resulting in superior surface quality and high finish. Additionally, cold-rolled products offer exceptional dimensional accuracy and can be engineered to meet specific application requirements including electromagnetic properties and deep drawing capabilities.
